Functional Bowel Disorders

Fecal Incontinence

Involuntary loss of bowel motion and/or wind can be very distressing.
Fecal incontinence is defined as the inability to control bowel movements and this can cause leaking of stool (feces) or wind (flatus) unexpectedly from the rectum.

Constipation is a common complaint amongst both men and women throughout Australia. People may consider themselves constipated if they are having irregular bowel motions, or if they are having regular bowel motions which are difficult to pass. Stools may be hard and dry, although this will not always be the cause. Many describe an ability to pass only small amounts of bowel motion and this may be associated with pain, cramps and bloating in the abdominal area. Another common feeling is that of incomplete evacuation which may leave you feeling dissatisfied and uncomfortable.
